Whilst trying to forecast the FTSE 100 I noticed a significant increase in volatility in the past 12 years. Gordon's proud boast aboout ending boom and bust came to mind. To be fair, on the occasion quoted below he was talking about ending interest rate volatility by delegating to the Bank of England the power to set base rates. But it does make an interesting picture.
